Ingredients
12 ingredients- ½ medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 2 carrots, coarsely grated
- 8–10 cherry tomatoes, halved, or 1 regular tomato, chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 450 g lean ground beef
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp ground black pepper
- ½ tsp sweet paprika
- 450 g green cabbage, thinly sliced
- 250 ml tomato sauce
- Fresh parsley, chopped, for serving
Method
9 steps- Melt the butter in a large frying pan with a lid over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onion and grated carrots. Cook, stirring regularly, until they begin to soften.
- Add the tomatoes and minced garlic and cook briefly until fragrant.
- Add the ground beef. Break it apart with a spatula and cook until no longer pink.
- Season the beef mixture with the salt, black pepper and sweet paprika.
- Add the sliced cabbage in batches, stirring as it begins to soften and reduce in volume.
- Pour in the tomato sauce and stir until the meat and vegetables are evenly combined.
- Cover the pan and cook over medium-low heat until the cabbage is tender, stirring occasionally so the mixture does not catch on the bottom.
- Taste and adjust the seasoning, then sprinkle with chopped parsley and serve hot.
Additional tips
- Cook the ground beef thoroughly until no pink remains. Refrigerate leftovers promptly and reheat until piping hot.
