- 5 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for rolling
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 packets Fleischmann's RapidRise yeast
- 2 tsp salt
- 2 cups milk
- 1/4 cup butter, room temperature
- 2 eggs
- 2/3 cup dark brown sugar
- 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 5 tbsp butter, softened
- 1 Granny Smith apple, peeled and diced
- 1 cup dark brown sugar
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
Method
- Mix together flour, sugar, salt, and yeast in a large bowl.
- Heat milk and butter until about 120 to 130 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Pour warm dairy into the flour mixture and mix well with a spatula.
- Add eggs and 2 more cups of flour; mix until combined.
- Knead dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes.
- Place dough in a bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let rest for 10 minutes.
- Mix brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a small bowl for filling.
- Peel and dice apples into small cubes.
- Roll out dough to about 14x20 inches and 1/4 inch thick.
- Spread softened butter over the dough with a brush.
- Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture over the buttered dough.
- Distribute diced apples evenly over the filling.
- Roll the dough tightly into a log and cut into 12 slices.
- Place slices into a greased and parchment-lined casserole dish.
- Cover with plastic wrap and let rise for 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 350°F and bake for 30 minutes until edges are golden brown.
- Make caramel glaze by melting butter, then adding brown sugar and heavy cream, boiling for 2 minutes, and cooling for 10 minutes.
- Cool baked cinnamon rolls for 10 minutes, then drizzle with caramel glaze.
