  • 1 lb mild Italian sausage
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1/2 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cracked black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons Italian herb blend
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 2 cans (14.5 oz each) beef broth
  • 24 oz pasta sauce
  • 24 oz water
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons sugar
  • Lasagna noodles or another pasta, quantity not stated by source
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 15 oz ricotta cheese
  • 4–5 oz fresh mozzarella cheese
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Method

  1. Brown the Italian sausage and ground beef with the onion and garlic in a large pot.
  2. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  3. Add the salt, black pepper, Italian herbs and tomato paste and cook briefly.
  4. Pour in the beef broth, pasta sauce and water and stir well.
  5. Add the sugar and bring the soup to a boil.
