- 2 Tbsp olive oil
- 1 lb of 80/20 ground beef
- 8 oz or 225 g of Italian sausage
- salt
- 200 g of medium chop onion
- 20 g of minced garlic
- 75 g of tomato paste
- 28 oz of crushed tomatoes
- 8 g of sugar
- 15 g of Better Than Bouillon beef base
- 1 g of chili flake
- 1 g of dried oregano
- water
Method
- Drop a big pot of water over high heat and bring to a boil while making the sauce.
- Heat a Dutch oven or heavy bottom pot over medium-high heat, add 2 Tbsp olive oil.
- Add 1 lb ground beef and 8 oz Italian sausage to the pot, season with salt.
- Use a meat musher to smoosh and break down the meat into small pieces, cooking for about 6-7 minutes, then brown gently for another 2 minutes, avoiding large chunks.
- Add crushed tomatoes to the pot, filling the can about 3/4 with water, scraping up fond from the bottom.
- Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer to reduce the sauce by 30-40%.
- Add 8 g sugar, 15 g beef base, 1 g chili flake, and 1 g dried oregano to the sauce.
- Cover with a lid, increase heat to medium, and simmer until flavors meld and sauce thickens.
