Whole recipe (12 servings): 2160 kcal
- 2 cups fresh or frozen blackberries
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1 quart lime sherbet
- 4 cups chilled lemon-lime soda
- 2 cups chilled club soda
- 1 cup gummy worms, for garnish
Method
6 steps- In a medium saucepan, combine blackberries, sugar, and water. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until berries are soft and syrup has thickened slightly.
- Remove from heat and let cool to room temperature, about 30 minutes. Strain through a fine-mesh sieve into a bowl, pressing on solids to extract as much syrup as possible. Discard solids. You should have about 1 cup of blackberry syrup.
- In a large punch bowl, add the lime sherbet. Pour the chilled lemon-lime soda and club soda over the sherbet.
- Slowly drizzle the blackberry syrup over the top. It will swirl and create a 'poison' effect. Do not stir completely if you want the swirl; stir gently if desired.
- Garnish with gummy worms floating on top or hanging over the edge of the bowl.
- Serve immediately in punch cups or glasses. For an adult version, add 1-2 ounces of vodka per serving.
Recipe notes
Helpful tips
- For a more intense color, add a few drops of purple food coloring to the syrup.
- Use chilled ingredients to keep the punch cold without diluting.
- For a non-alcoholic version, omit vodka.
Equipment
- Medium saucepan
- Fine-mesh sieve
- Large punch bowl
- Punch cups or glasses
Storage
Best served immediately. Leftover punch can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours, but the sherbet will melt and the carbonation will fade. Stir before serving.
Additional tips
- Contains no alcohol in the base recipe. If adding vodka, keep away from children. Gummy worms may be a choking hazard for young children.
