  • 125 ml black treacle
  • 125 ml golden syrup or honey
  • 450 g dark soft brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon butter
  • 225 ml hot water

Method

6 steps
  1. Add 450 g of dark soft brown sugar, 125 ml of black treacle, 125 ml of honey, 1 teaspoon of butter, and 225 ml of hot water into a pan.
  2. Mix the ingredients together until the sugar and treacle are evenly combined and the butter begins to melt.
  3. Place the pan on low heat and gradually warm the mixture, stirring constantly.
  4. Bring the mixture to the boil, stirring continuously, until it reaches 270°F (140°C) or until it thickens and turns a dark color (approximate by eye).
  5. Pour the hot mixture onto a lined container or tray, spreading evenly.
  6. Allow the toffee to cool and set overnight or in the fridge to speed up the process.
