- 1 lb dry ziti pasta
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 2 jars spaghetti sauce (26 oz each)
- 6 oz provolone cheese, sliced
- 1 1/2 cups sour cream
- 6 oz mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 2 tablespoons Parmesan cheese, grated
Method
- Bring a large saucepan of lightly salted water to the boil.
- Add the ziti and cook until al dente according to the package instructions, then drain.
- Meanwhile, cook the onion and ground beef in a large frying pan over medium heat until the beef is browned.
- Drain any excess fat from the pan.
- Add the spaghetti sauce to the beef and onion mixture and simmer for about 15 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Lightly grease a 9-by-13-inch baking dish.
- Spread half of the cooked ziti over the base of the dish.
- Layer the provolone slices over the pasta.
- Spread the sour cream over the provolone.
- Spoon half of the beef and tomato sauce over the sour cream.
- Add the remaining ziti.
- Sprinkle with the shredded mozzarella.
- Spoon the remaining meat sauce evenly over the mozzarella.
- Finish with the grated Parmesan.
- Bake for about 30 minutes, until heated through and the cheese is melted and bubbling.
- Rest briefly before serving.
