  • 1 lb dry ziti pasta
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 2 jars spaghetti sauce (26 oz each)
  • 6 oz provolone cheese, sliced
  • 1 1/2 cups sour cream
  • 6 oz mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 2 tablespoons Parmesan cheese, grated

Method

  1. Bring a large saucepan of lightly salted water to the boil.
  2. Add the ziti and cook until al dente according to the package instructions, then drain.
  3. Meanwhile, cook the onion and ground beef in a large frying pan over medium heat until the beef is browned.
  4. Drain any excess fat from the pan.
  5. Add the spaghetti sauce to the beef and onion mixture and simmer for about 15 minutes.
  6. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Lightly grease a 9-by-13-inch baking dish.
  8. Spread half of the cooked ziti over the base of the dish.
  9. Layer the provolone slices over the pasta.
  10. Spread the sour cream over the provolone.
  11. Spoon half of the beef and tomato sauce over the sour cream.
  12. Add the remaining ziti.
  13. Sprinkle with the shredded mozzarella.
  14. Spoon the remaining meat sauce evenly over the mozzarella.
  15. Finish with the grated Parmesan.
  16. Bake for about 30 minutes, until heated through and the cheese is melted and bubbling.
  17. Rest briefly before serving.
