- 2 eggs
- 2/3 cup of milk
- pinch of salt
- 1/4 teaspoon of ground cinnamon (optional)
- 1/4 teaspoon of ground nutmeg (optional)
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract (optional)
- 6 slices of bread (any type)
- butter or margarine for cooking
- maple syrup for serving
Method
- Pick a shallow bowl that will be easy to dunk bread into.
- Beat together two eggs, 2/3 cup of milk, and a pinch of salt.
- Add 1/4 teaspoon of ground cinnamon or ground nutmeg if desired, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract for flavor.
- Cut six thick slices of bread.
- Dunk each slice in the egg mixture, turning to soak both sides.
- Lightly butter a griddle or skillet and heat it over medium-high heat.
- Place the soaked bread on the griddle and cook until both sides are golden brown, flipping halfway through.
- Serve hot with toppings such as fresh berries, powdered sugar, cinnamon, chocolate chips, or maple syrup.
