- 1 pound 80/20 ground beef
- 1 onion (diced)
- 3 cloves garlic (finely chopped)
- 1 bell pepper (chopped)
- salt (to taste)
- pepper (to taste)
- smoked paprika (to taste)
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- fresh parsley (finely chopped)
- chili flakes (to taste, optional)
- 2-3 large potatoes (cubed)
- butter (to taste)
- salt (to taste, for mashing)
- ground black pepper (to taste, for mashing)
- sour cream (optional)
- heavy cream (optional)
- Parmesan cheese (grated, to taste)
- cheddar cheese (for topping)
- mozzarella cheese (for topping)
Method
- In a skillet, cook the ground beef and drain excess oil.
- Add diced onions and cook until translucent.
- Add finely chopped garlic and toast until fragrant.
- Stir in chopped bell peppers and continue cooking for 3-4 minutes.
- Add a pinch of salt, pepper, and smoked paprika, then mix well.
- Introduce ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and brown sugar; mix thoroughly.
- Let the mixture simmer for about 2 minutes, adding finely chopped parsley and chili flakes (if desired).
- Boil water with salt and add cubed potatoes; cook for about 20 minutes until tender.
- Drain potatoes, mash them, and mix in butter, salt, black pepper, sour cream or heavy cream, and grated Parmesan cheese.
- Spread the mashed potatoes over the sloppy joe mixture in the skillet.
- Top with cheddar and mozzarella cheese.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F for 20-25 minutes until cheese is melted and edges are crispy.
- Let cool for 15 minutes before serving.
