Ingredients

3 ingredients
  • 2 slices sandwich bread
  • 2 slices melting cheese, such as Cheddar or American cheese
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter, softened

Method

6 steps
  1. Spread the softened butter evenly over one side of each slice of bread.
  2. Place the cheese between the unbuttered sides of the bread, leaving the buttered sides facing outward.
  3. Place the sandwich in a cold or gently heated skillet and set it over medium-low heat.
  4. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes, pressing lightly with a spatula, until the underside is evenly golden.
  5. Turn the sandwich over and cook for another 2 to 3 minutes until the second side is golden and the cheese has melted.
  6. Remove from the skillet, rest for 1 minute, then cut and serve while warm.
