Ingredients

5 ingredients
  • 300 g potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
  • 75 g plain wheat flour, plus more if needed
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp ground black pepper, optional
  • 2 tbsp neutral oil, plus more as needed

Method

8 steps
  1. Place the potatoes in a saucepan, cover them with cold water and add a small pinch of the measured salt.
  2. Bring to a boil and cook for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the potatoes are completely tender.
  3. Drain thoroughly and allow the potatoes to steam-dry for 2 minutes, then mash them until smooth.
  4. Mix in the remaining salt, optional black pepper and flour. Add a little additional flour only if necessary to form a soft dough that can be handled.
  5. Divide the dough into 8 equal portions and flatten each portion into a patty approximately 1 cm thick.
  6. Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add half of the patties without overcrowding the pan.
  7. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes on each side until crisp and golden. Transfer to a plate and repeat with the remaining oil and patties.
  8. Serve the potato patties warm.
