  • peas
  • carrots
  • tomato paste
  • flour
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • seasoning blend
  • Rosemary
  • dried thyme
  • salt
  • ground black pepper
  • beef broth
  • potatoes
  • butter
  • heavy cream
  • milk
  • Parmesan cheese
  • parsley

Method

23 steps
  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Place the potatoes in salted water and boil until fork-tender.
  3. Drain and leave to cool slightly.
  4. Mash with butter, heavy cream and a little milk.
  5. Season the potatoes with salt and black pepper.
  6. Stir in the grated Parmesan.
  7. Cook the ground beef in a large frying pan, breaking it apart.
  8. Add the onions and garlic.
  9. Cook until the onion is translucent.
  10. Add the peas and carrots.
  11. Stir in the tomato paste.
  12. Sprinkle over the flour and mix thoroughly.
  13. Add the Worcestershire sauce, seasoning blend, rosemary and thyme.
  14. Season with salt and black pepper.
  15. Pour in the beef broth.
  16. Simmer until the filling has thickened.
  17. Spread the beef mixture in a casserole dish.
  18. Spoon the mashed potatoes over the filling.
  19. Spread evenly and texture the top with a fork.
  20. Brush with an egg-and-milk mixture if desired.
  21. Sprinkle with parsley.
  22. Bake for 20–25 minutes, until golden.
  23. Rest before serving so the layers hold together.
