Yield
Ingredients
4 ingredients- 1/2 medium pineapple, peeled and cored, approximately 450 g edible flesh
- 2 medium apples, cored and chopped, approximately 300 g prepared weight
- 2 medium bananas, peeled, approximately 236 g
- 200 ml orange juice
Method
8 steps- Cut away the pineapple skin and remove the hard central core. Weigh or measure approximately 450 g pineapple flesh and chop it into small pieces.
- Core the apples and chop them into pieces. The peel may be left on for additional fibre, provided the apples are washed thoroughly.
- Peel and slice the bananas.
- Place the pineapple, apples and bananas in a high-powered blender.
- Blend until the fruit is mostly smooth, stopping to scrape down the sides if necessary.
- Add the orange juice and blend again until completely smooth.
- If the smoothie is thicker than preferred, blend in a small amount of cold water.
- Divide evenly among four glasses and serve immediately.
Recipe notes
Helpful tips
- Use ripe bananas and pineapple for the best flavour and sweetness.
- Leave the apple peel on for more fibre, or remove it for a smoother texture.
- Chill the fruit and juice before blending if the smoothie will be served immediately.
- Blend in a few ice cubes for a colder, slightly thinner drink.
Equipment
- Sharp knife
- Chopping board
- Blender
- Kitchen scale or measuring jug
Storage
For the best flavour and texture, drink immediately. If necessary, refrigerate in a sealed container for up to 24 hours and shake or stir thoroughly before drinking.
Additional tips
- The smoothie contains substantial naturally occurring fruit sugar. Take care when using the blender and never insert utensils while its blades are moving.
