Whole recipe (1 serving): 450 kcal

  • 200 g vanilla ice cream (about 1 1/4 cups)
  • 60 ml whole milk (1/4 cup)
  • 30 g Nutella (2 tablespoons), optional for a Nutella milkshake
  • 30 g smooth Biscoff spread (2 tablespoons), optional for a Biscoff milkshake
  • 2 Oreo biscuits (about 22 g), optional for an Oreo milkshake

Method

6 steps
  1. Allow the ice cream to stand at room temperature for 2 to 3 minutes so it is slightly softened but not melted.
  2. Add the vanilla ice cream and whole milk to a blender.
  3. For a plain vanilla milkshake, blend immediately. For a flavoured milkshake, add either 30 g Nutella, 30 g Biscoff spread or 2 Oreo biscuits.
  4. Blend for 15 to 20 seconds, or just until smooth and evenly combined. Avoid prolonged blending because it will warm and thin the milkshake.
  5. Check the consistency. If it is too thick to pour, add milk 1 tablespoon at a time and pulse briefly after each addition.
  6. Pour into a chilled glass and serve immediately.

Recipe notes

Helpful tips

  • Slightly softened ice cream blends more easily and requires less additional milk.
  • Start with the stated 60 ml milk because adding too much at once will make the milkshake thin.
  • Blend only until smooth to keep the milkshake cold and thick.
  • Chilling the serving glass beforehand helps the milkshake stay cold for longer.
  • Choose only one of the measured flavour additions unless intentionally creating a combined flavour.

Equipment

  • Blender
  • Kitchen scales
  • Measuring jug
  • Tablespoon
  • Large serving glass

Storage

Do not store a blended milkshake at room temperature. If necessary, freeze it promptly in a freezer-safe container and re-blend after partially thawing, although the texture may change.

Additional tips

  • The vanilla milkshake contains milk. Nutella contains hazelnuts, milk and soya; Biscoff spread contains wheat and may contain soya; Oreo ingredients vary by market. Check all product labels for allergens. Do not operate the blender without its lid securely fitted.
