  • 1 1/2 to 2 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 medium white onion, diced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) corn kernels, drained
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) green beans, drained
  • 32 oz frozen tater tots
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

Method

  1. Cook the ground beef with salt and pepper in a large saucepan over medium-high heat for 6 to 8 minutes, until browned.
  2. Add the onion and sauté for about 5 minutes, until soft and translucent.
  3. Add the butter and allow it to melt.
  4. Stir in the flour and cook for 1 to 2 minutes.
  5. Gradually add the beef broth, milk and Worcestershire sauce while stirring.
  6. Bring to a simmer, add the drained corn and green beans and cook for 3 to 5 minutes, until thickened.
  7. Preheat the oven to 350°F or 175°C and grease a 9-by-13-inch baking dish.
  8. Spread the meat and vegetable mixture in the dish.
  9. Arrange the frozen tater tots in a single layer and sprinkle with cheddar.
  10. Bake uncovered for about 25 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbling.
